For now anyway.
I’ve been pretty positive about this election. After the debate the other day…..not so much. (though there are enough people out there who claim McCain won that debate, that I may need to watch it again to see what I missed)
Joe the Plumber reminded me that there ARE people out there, lots of people who believe in this country and what it is and what more it could be. These are the people not looking for a handout from the rich so “the wealth is spread around”.
Instead they want the government to act like responsible adults doing what they’re paid to do. Keep the rules fair and regular, keep our rights in tact and keep us safe from harm.
Today Rachel Lucas reminds me of what needs to be done by quoting from Lord of the Rings.
Hold your ground! Hold your ground!
Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers,
I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of men fails,
when we forsake our friends
and break all bonds of fellowship,
but it is not this day.
An hour of wolves and shattered shields,
when the age of men comes crashing down,
but it is not this day!
This day we fight!!
By all that you hold dear on this good Earth,
I bid you stand, Men of the West!!!
I love those lines.
Kat-Mo of Ace of Spades inspires today too.
Kelos is one of the Supreme Court decisions we are outraged by. Why? The government can take from whomever they want (and in this case, land, one of our most dear possessions) in order to give to whomever they want. For the purpose of “public good”. And “public good” can equal prettier street corners and higher tax revenue.
Now Obama is working the same line only on a non land scale. The government can take from whomever they want (like Joe the Plumber) in order to give to whomever it wants (because spreading the wealth is “good”).
Its outrageous.
