I Love George W. Bush Day

Today in the Washington Post, Eugene Robinson has a very good column (and I generally can’t stand his columns) concerning how exciting it is for him to have a black man in the White House.

I’m excited for him and for all black people in this country. It MUST be amazing. I know because for some reason, when Sarah Palin was picked to be VP, I too was very excited about the prospect, just because I’m a woman. (never believing Geraldine Ferraro or Pat Shroeder or any other woman had a chance before) So good on em……but today is I Love George W. Bush Day.

There’s even a bumper sticker. (ht the Anchoress)

I just wanted to put some of these columns to post.
Michael Gerson of the Washington Post.

But that humanity is precisely what I will remember. I have seen President Bush show more loyalty than he has been given, more generosity than he has received. I have seen his buoyancy under the weight of malice and his forgiveness of faithless friends. Again and again, I have seen the natural tug of his pride swiftly overcome by a deeper decency — a decency that is privately engaging and publicly consequential.

Dan Eggen of the Washington Post.

In private meetings with business leaders, Bush has made a point of saying that he is happy the crisis happened on his watch so the next president and a new economic team do not have to grapple with it.

“His high energy level and spirit sets the tone for the rest of us,” said Kevin Sullivan, Bush’s communications director. “There’s been no time to worry about any of this other stuff. . . . He believes the American people expect us to finish strong and to leave things in the best possible position for his successor.”

Jeffrey Scott Shapiro of the Wall Street Journal recognizes how badly he was treated. (and Tai Chi Policy agrees.)

from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.

Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty — a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

At 10:40, President Bush will keep his streak alive by telling everyone how much he loves America. Just as he always has.
And he’ll show everyone how much he loves America by preparing Obama as best he can for the next 4 years. He’ll do everything in his power to impart to President-elect Obama the seriousness of national security. He’ll do it with dignity and class as he has always done – ….

It pleases me beyond belief to know that I got to shake the hand of this awesome classy gracious funny responsible smart man. May he retire knowing that history will prove him to be one of our best and our country was lucky to have him during these last 8 years.

It looks like he’s even going to get some troops home in time for the holidays this year. General Petraeus is awesome, but Bush is the CiC.

Good to hear W is so positive..and willing to help our new President elect..He is a great guy…with a long 8 years behind him…9/11, war to follow, Katrina, the economic crisis and all the while having the liberal illuminati pointing their fingers at him and the MSM saying he is guilty and to blame for it all.

Bush showed very much class for calling Obama, and I’m glad the mainstream media illuminati showed this. For once they aired something positive for the GOP.

I couldn’t agree with you more. It really pains me how much Bush has been trashed by the Drive By Media, the left and some Republicans. History is going to regard him much more favorably than the polls are now. I am confident of that.
