David Brooks in Defense of Death. I always feel particularly bad for people who have no faith in things that come after life. Death to them must be very frightening and lonely. Concerning the recent death of Richard Neuhaus after an otherworldly experience:

Why should the Gitmo thing surprise anyone – the feds (say they) can find one lonely steer infected with mad cow somewhere in the northern reaches of Canada but cannot find 12 million illegals within the US borders.

150,000 in 16 months or 268 in 12? THAT is so freakingly unbelievably funny AND true. Oh, by the way, there’s another couple of hundred thousand contractors, hundreds of thousands of vehicles, airplanes, tents, and “stuff.”
