Because I’m such a girl

Yes, I’m a girl and I get an itch for advice columnists now and again. So Glenn Reynolds sucked me into watching Dr. Helen’s interview with Amy Alkon wherein these 2 advice columnists work very hard to hiply not give out any advice other than “be nice to each other”.

Which is good advice. However…….

On hookups: they both think they’re great. Now watch the video. Ladies, are hookups still great when done between 2 drunken strangers? I mean seriously, watch the video. The hookup couples are stumbling, yes stumbling, drunk. Did he check to confirm she uses birth control? Or is not psycho? Did she check to confirm he’s putting that condom on correctly and that he’s not psycho? That’s just the basics.

On having sex with your spouse when you don’t want to: They compare it to him changing a tire for you. Huh? How about if we compare it to the rule of any living together relationship.

The rule is: He who has the lesser requirement must step up to meet the greater in most instances in order to keep harmony.
In other words, if you’re sloppier, then he is – you’re going to have to be tidier. If you’re less fussy about weeds in the yard, harmony requires that you pull a few. And if you want sex less than you’re partner, do it more than you would like to anyway.

The rule is not a rule of payments, as in: this chore of changing the tire, gets this reward of a roll in the sack.

And feminism being a bane to men’s existence? I hardly think so. Feminism brought men the “hookup” for one. And less stress about providing for the family. And more acceptance of fatherly time/love/effort towards his children. Feminism can and is a pain the patooty but if it has caused men to lose their balls, well, I hate to say it, but come on…..are you really going to blame girls for that??

Hope: Day 1

Hilarious.

Barack Obama

Welcome to the Presidency sir.

I wish you well.

Here’s a nice welcome from the Post.
Here’s one from the Times.
And one from J. Kenneth Blackwell of the NYPost.

Based on how you’ve handled things up to this very minute, I’m not tooooo worried about the next 4 years and I promise to work hard at seeing your side when I disagree. However………..

I refuse to abide these idjits!!! Don’t bother clicking through. It’s a bunch of celebrities pledging how they’re going to be better people now.

I think my very favorite one was the guy that pledged to sell his old ratty car and get a hybrid. Um, dude? Who are you going to sell it to? Someone who doesn’t drive? ROFL

Also the big “National Day of Service”. Good idea sir, but must those of us who have been volunteering for years and years and years have to now listen to the newly converted do-gooders go on about how great it is to give back to their communities? Good for them, go volunteer, don’t make me hear about it!

So – as your first Presidential decree, please make these yahoos hush or you’ll find that those of us who want to support you will be so busy chastizing your devotees that we won’t be able to see you as you, but only as their One.

“Bring out your Dead!”

al-Qaeda: Saving Obama from having to use Guantanamo. Thanks guys!

My Final Bush Post

Actually I’ll probably mention him from time to time but after today it’ll be Obama mostly.

Let’s start with a WOW moment!
The peace loving Dalai Lama LOVES George W. Bush and notes that terrorism

cannot be tackled by applying the principle of ahimsa [non-violence] because the minds of terrorists are closed.

(ht Gateway Pundit)

I’ve always thought that reasonable people can not help but agree with that. So if you don’t – you probably aren’t reasonable.
…………………
Powerline takes a look at Bush’s farewell speech. {sadly, I still haven’t]
………………..
Fred Hiatt notes that democracies work.
…………….
And William Kristol gives some credit where credit is due, while others note that bashing Bush was “a way to belong”. I’ve noticed that myself, which is why it’s been fun to stop the fun, friendship and laughter with a little “Oh – I like Bush” at a party. Now we can go with the first point in this post. “Oh – well the Dalai Lama thinks…….”

Take care President Bush. Have some fun there in Texas.

Mark My Words

We’re not going down in a hail of global warming fire.

We’re going down by our overuse of antibiotics and their antibacterial cleanser counterparts.

People have long been exposed to antibiotics in meat and milk. Now, the new research shows that they also may be ingesting them from vegetables, perhaps even ones grown on organic farms.

The Minnesota researchers planted corn, green onion and cabbage in manure-treated soil in 2005 to evaluate the environmental impacts of feeding antibiotics to livestock. Six weeks later, the crops were analyzed and found to absorb chlortetracycline, a drug widely used to treat diseases in livestock. In another study in 2007, corn, lettuce and potato were planted in soil treated with liquid hog manure. They, too, accumulated concentrations of an antibiotic, named Sulfamethazine, also commonly used in livestock.

As the amount of antibiotics in the soil increased, so too did the levels taken up by the corn, potatoes and other plants.

Evan vegans can’t hide.

Roach said “the clearest public health implication” from treating livestock with antibiotics is the development of resistant bacteria that reduces the effectiveness of human medicine. Past studies have shown overuse of antibiotics reduces their ability to cure infections. Over time, certain antibiotics are rendered ineffective.

And more antibacterial crap you use, the more good bacteria you kill and the more you are susceptible to what’s left out there. We’re all going to die!!!!! (yes, I know that’s true, with or without ab’s.)

Obama: We don’t torture

Unless we do.

What was that campaign about against McCain? “No 3rd Bush term”
It looks like Obama is basically saying all of the decisions made by Bush really are just fine. They just lacked the nuance of being explained in the manner that he, Obama, can explain them.

Hope and change. Hope and change.

Israeli: Fighting like 1948

And Hamas is surprised by that.

My take: War sucks. Get it over with asap.

Throwing the Ball Out

I haven’t seen Bush’s speech yet, but do you all remember this?

Friday () Blogging

I’d show you a picture of the london broil I ate yesterday but there’s no sense being morbid!

There’s too much going on today and I’m late for work, so instead, here’s a photo I didn’t take while in Yellowstone, but the guy behind me did. It was gorgeous.

Happy Friday.
