Abortion as a Celebration

Today HotAir links to this column advocating an “Abortion Pride Movement”.

Huh??

Why do women have abortions? Because they get pregnant when they don’t want to. Through ignorance, or rolling the dice, or failed birth control or spur of the moment passions that get away from them, women get pregnant when they don’t want a child. To fix the situation they’re in they decide to have an abortion. What exactly is there to be proud about??

The importance of abortion as a human right integral to women’s dignity, the destigmatization and normalization of the experience as common for women – there are now more than 46 million abortions occurring in the world today (close to half of which are illegal and unsafe) and one in three U.S. women will have an abortion by the age of 45 – and ending the silence and shame that women may still feel cannot be underestimated in the global struggle for reproductive justice and gender equality. When we normalize abortion as a fact of women’s lives, and discuss abortion as an honorable and loving choice that helps women to become better mothers in the future, we are showing respect, understanding, and support for the complexity of women’s choices.

Confession time here. I have had an abortion. It was the worst decision I have ever made in my entire life. I got pregnant accidently due to stupidness and I had the abortion because of all my big ambitions in life.

From the very second that the abortion occurred, I have wanted to be a mother. That’s it. No more wanting to become a biochemical engineer, no more philosophical jaunts, no more anything regarding any sort of higher career ambition. I wanted to be mom.

I don’t kick myself every day. I don’t wallow in guilt. But what I do realize is that the decision to have an abortion was inevitable to me at the time because it had been “normalized”. People did it all the time. It wouldn’t affect me long term. I thought about it, yes, but not enough. I was young.

I believe women have the right to choose. Absolutely. These are our bodies. However – the decision is NOT a normal event, nor should it ever be such that it’s regarded with little care or with “pride”.

You’ve made a mistake and you are choosing to fix it a certain way. There is no call for a movement here. A life is terminated. Yes, a life of cells that are wholly dependent upon the woman who gets to (and should get to) choose what to do with those cells in her body, but a life nonetheless.

If you want to be proud of how you’ve “fixed a problem”, then your life doesn’t have much to be proud of does it?

Women=Big Threat

At least according to the Taliban.

Or is it just me who gets the feeling that 85% of Sharia law are laws having to do with the behavior of women and how it affects men.

Pussies. Taliban men can’t handle their women so instead the make them illegal.

Captain Phillips is Rescued

Captain Phillips is rescued and everyone rejoices, except Daily Kos who apparently has decided it’s in their best interest to be contrary for the hell of it.

The actual result is that Maersk, the shipowner, saved a lot of money that would have been lost with the ship inactive and off charter while it sat idle in a pirate port. Is this worth the deadly risk to the crew and the Seals? Not to me.

Um, dude, you weren’t the one who was kidnapped.

Happy Easter

I’ll pass you over to the Anchoress today who reminds us that God’s plans sometimes seem contrary to what we think those plans should be.

ie Put Jesus on a cross?? What’s that going to solve? See?

Good Friday

Brutally Honest has a Good Friday montage up from the movie ‘The Passion of The Christ’ that I found to be a good reminder about what this day is about.

Management

Sorry dude, but if you want to be the big time Presidential executive, then you get to have all of your words parsed. If you don’t sound like you care, what else can people assume?

Barack Obama decided to not say a word about Captain Richard Phillips (a man with his own family/friends/community here in Vermont) because come on ” guys, we’re talking about housing right now”.

Hillary laughed. I don’t mean to make snark of this situation, but can’t someone come out and say something nice?

Here’s the Washington Post:

“For now, this is a sustainable business for the pirates,” Menkhaus said. “Everyone’s doing a cost-benefit analysis.”
The pirate business model usually involves hauling the crew or passengers of a seized ship back to Somalia.
The pirates’ current predicament — stranded in a lifeboat and staring at the hull of a U.S. destroyer — is unusual.

Yep. But it’s only a sustainable business for pirates BECAUSE of the cost/benefit analysis people do and then pay ransoms on.
What exactly is the cost to send the US fleet there to protect the Captain of a boat loaded with donations? And who pays it?
There are 200 people being held by these pirates right now. Do you suppose those prisoners believe that the cost of imprisonment is worth the benefit to the ships owners???

Seriously, the whole article makes this sound like a game of pretend. I’ll pretend to scare you and you pay me and I’ll go away.

This country is the one that wiped out pirating in the 1800′s. I’d like to know who the hell this ‘anonymous’ US Defense Official is talking in the quote below:

The vessels strengthen surveillance of the area and may dissuade pirates from seizing another ship, but there are not enough to mount a blockade in the danger zone that sprawls across 1.1 million square miles (2.85 million square kilometers), said a senior U.S. defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss operational matters.

There may not be enough for a blockade, but certainly we could stop pirating tomorrow. If we wanted to.

And Ed Morrissey, you’re wrong here. Like Scott, I’m not asking for words about the situation and what’s going on. I hardly ever want to know what the government does behind closed doors. But let us know that you actually have Captain Phillips and his family on your mind, while you multitask and talk about housing.

Illegal Immigrants

Maaan – I thought I was done with this subject.

As raids have increased and the recession has worsened and the talk of illegals getting amnesty has died down illegals have been going home.

As illegals have gone home for whatever reason wages have increased to replace these workers with legal workers.

But President Obama wants granting a path to citizenship via illegal immigration vs via shortening the regular lines at the border to become part of his massive agenda.

I can’t say it any louder. Fix the damn process of getting legal immigrants granted their visas. Ignore and prosecute illegal immigrants as you encounter them. Encourage the hiring of legal people all over this country.

Do something for the actual poor and unemployed citizens and legal immigrants that are here!!!!!

Just last month, Mr. Obama openly recognized that immigration is a potential minefield.

“I know this is an emotional issue; I know it’s a controversial issue,” he told an audience at a town meeting on March 18 in Costa Mesa, Calif. “I know that the people get real riled up politically about this.”

But, he said, immigrants who are long-time residents but lack legal status “have to have some mechanism over time to get out of the shadows.”

There IS a mechanism. It’s called, go home and stand in line.
…………….

Administration officials said that Mr. Obama’s plan would not add new workers to the American work force, but that it would recognize millions of illegal immigrants who have already been working here.

That’s right, the big Obama plan wouldn’t add new workers because theoretically all those workers now who are here illegally working in the shadows will continue their crappy low wage jobs once they get their visas. How idiotic can he be? don’t answer that.

I KNOW illegal immigrants. They would LOVE for amnesty to happen so they can move out of their current jobs and into better jobs. Everyone wants to better themselves. This is simple math, not calculus.

The Bow
I’ll link to Powerline today and their take on the bow and the bow denial. They have the video and amazingly some people still haven’t seen it. Watch it.
The funny thing about Obama’s denial of the bow is that now it basically IS news.

Well – still not news to the NYTimes, but Howard Kurtz of the WAPO mentions it.
…………….
The visit to the troops.
I’m glad Obama visited the troops. I am. Good for him. It’s expected that he’s going to say something asinine like now is the time to start handing Iraq over to Iraqis when it’s been going on for over a year, but whatever. That’s politics.

Now, read Gateway Pundit and the inside scoop of that trip.
…………..
MSM
Gateway Pundit also led me to this story by Doug Ross. On the same day, all across the country the media seems to notice the uninsured for headlines. Coinkydink? I think not.
…………..
Hijacking
Just an fyi on hijacking…..from this story you get

“They’re making more money in piracy than the gross national product of Somalia, so it’s not going to go away any time soon until there’s international concern and international law enforcement,” said Murphy, an instructor at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
…………..
“Every shipping company so far has paid the ransom, and every victim has been released unharmed up until this point,” he said.

Coinkydink….? I don’t think so. Dealing with hijackers by paying the ransom increases the hijacking.
