I wonder if Tony Karon is a Navy Seal?

Why do I wonder if Tony Karon is a Navy Seal? Because he does an easy takedown of Bin Laden in Time Magazine.

The diary and the thumb drives that recorded his email traffic show, Administration officials have stressed, that bin Laden was in contact with a wide number of followers and was pushing his network “to engage in more plots, in more areas of the world and on specific dates.”
Well, yes. No question he’d have liked more attacks, and to have killed thousands more Americans. But that doesn’t change the fact that most of this has not happened, regardless of bin Laden’s urgings. It’s all very well for bin Laden to be emailing his acolytes to urge them to attack U.S. cities, bomb trains, kill leaders and generally unleash mayhem on American soil. But that starts to sound like telling them to acquire nuclear weapons and cruise missiles on which to carry them — aspirations entirely unmoored from the bounds of the plausible.

I realize the left (I’m assuming Tony is a member of left because of Time) doesn’t take seriously the actual threat that exists. They don’t believe that it can happen again, since it hasn’t happened again. Take a look at that flight to SF and the Yemeni who tried to get into the cockpit while yelling “Allah Akbar”. If you google for it, the articles that show up are blogs. It didn’t make front page news and really should have. It should have shaken us to our boots that there are still people who want us – yes, you – infidels dead.

Tony is participating in the casualness, but it’s a fun column and I like looking at bin Laden this way.
Go, relax, enjoy. Snicker a little. And watch him being taken down yet again.

I forgot my Friday Fun time…from facebook.

Q(s)OTD

All from this George Will column on the Ryan budget: Go read the whole thing.
[bold is mine so I can keep some context]

Last month, Barack Obama was asked by an interviewer from Texas why he is so unpopular there. Obama replied: “Texas has always been a pretty Republican state, for, you know, historic reasons.” Well, yes, “always” — if you believe, as many baby boomers seem to, that the world began when they became more or less sentient.

…………….

Liberals think Medicare and Social Security as they exist are “fundamental” to the nation’s identity. But liberals think the Constitution — which the Framers meant to be fundamental, meaning constituting, law — should be construed as a “living” document, continually evolving to take different meanings under whatever liberals consider new social imperatives.

…………….

The regnant ideology within the Obama administration and among congressional Democrats is reactionary liberalism, the conviction that whatever government programs exist should forever exist because they always have existed.

A Couple of Observations

When you join your mother at church for “Mother’s Day” – you know you get points! – and the paster is soooooo pc that he/she celebrates, not only “mothers”, but aunts and sisters and friends who all do their own share of “mothering”, the day loses it’s meaning.

Mothers are often under appreciated. Hence the day dudes. I’m not a mother – I have no freaking idea what’s it’s like (and may I add – I would be a VERY good mother and know exactly what’s best for your kid based on my lack of experience LOL).

Give mother’s their day. Their WHOLE day, not just a piece of “women’s day” or whatever. Sheesh.

And another observation…..
This is a cool photo. This ant apparently stayed like this for 30 seconds.

Consumer/Producer

You probably think this will be about goods, but it’s about information.

As a consumer of information, I want it all the time in all forms.
As the producer of information, I’m with Jonah Goldberg….it seems that Obama should have waited.

The White House says the information in Bin Laden’s compound is the equivalent of a “small college library,” potentially containing incalculably valuable and unique data on Al Qaeda operations, personnel and methods.

“It’s going to be great even if only 10% of it is actionable,” a government official told Politico’s Mike Allen.

I’m no expert on such matters — though I’ve talked to several about this — but even a casual World War II buff can understand that the shelf life of actionable intelligence would be extended if we hadn’t told the whole world, and Al Qaeda in particular, that we had it.

It’s a bit like racing to the microphones to announce you’ve stolen the other team’s playbook even before you’ve had a chance to use the information in the big game.

And from Peter Brooks:

Yes, the terrorists no doubt took countermeasures to cover their tracks upon hearing about the events in Abbottabad — but they might not have done as clean a sweep if we hadn’t bragged of stumbling upon a “mother lode” of information.
And, yes, it’s fascinating to know how our spooks tracked the courier and the SEALs stormed the compound — but did we really have to coach the bad guys on this? That sort of grandstanding will likely prove counterproductive.
And what about the existence of a CIA safe house in Osama’s ‘hood? Sure, the operation and folks who pulled it off undetected deserve a hearty “well done” for outstanding tradecraft and lots of guts, but the attaboys should come inside the confines of Langley — not in the press.

All good points. All made earlier by Coastwatcher in the comments of that link.

I am wondering if it’s about control. This administration wants control of all the communication (even though they suck at it). They know the info will go out…Pakistan surely knew what happened…and they want their spin to be the first spin.

By forcing us to receive their communications they gain even more control. I realize that with 911 requirements on phones (they must all be trackable) that the government already has our number. What is this new bit of control? (HT the most admirable Matt Drudge)

What always cracks me up about Democrats is that they always think it will be just their side in charge. Let’s say that John Ashcroft suddenly becomes President next year. What say they then?

China

This was worth a read.
I keep hearing that China is the scary guy in the room and this article definitely brings er home.

And Shriver is just one of at least 57 defendants in federal prosecutions since 2008 charging espionage conspiracies with China or efforts to pass classified information, sensitive technology or trade secrets to intelligence operatives, state-sponsored entities, private individuals or businesses in China, according to an Associated Press review of US Justice Department cases.
Of those, nine are awaiting trial, and two are considered fugitives. The other defendants have been convicted, though some are yet to be sentenced.

Seriously?

What are you doing here again? I think I’ll rename this blog has been switched to “Go See Threesources.com”.

Awesome photo!

Now v then

I don’t want to squander time looking for the perfect counterpoint to the point seen this morning on the front page of the Washington Post. We all know how everyday during the Bush years, the “economy was crashing” “jobs were disappearing” “hell was near”.

Today in an article where unemployment has gone up…..this is the internet cover of the Washington Post.

If it’s too small, this is what it says:

Glimmers of hope in April’s jobs report

This is the actual title of the column:

Economy adds 244,000 jobs; unemployment rises to 9 percent

You know what the intro would have been like before.

Smackdown

This was just good fun. Rice v O’donnell.

As Allahpundit says:

If you’re thinking you’d rather pass on the umpteen-thousandth Iraq war debate in which neither party has a remote chance of convincing the other, think again. Just wait until this one gets going. You won’t be sorry.

I hardly ever watch online videos….I look to blogs to sum up the interviews etc and give me the meet. Don’t make me watch it myself. I enjoyed this one though. She’s amazing.

QOTD

From Glenn Reynolds via Three Sources:

UM, ISN’T THIS HOW WE WOUND UP WITH THE REAVERS? Scientist seeks to banish evil, boost empathy. More here.

ThreeSources also has this…..a link to a great Summer Glau interview. With snippets!
