I am as much against Obama as the next guy. He is shameless and foolish and a slimy liar.
However – do not think for one second that I will not call you out (you on the right who I basically agree with) if you speak of us as in “peacetime” when there is still fighting and dying going on in 3 countries now.
The two parties have a conflict of visions. Republicans view the current levels of spending — an astonishing 24 percent of GDP — as a bizarre exception to peacetime norms in America.

Perhaps voters don’t care all that much about the specifics of the debt ceiling, although it sure seems like plenty of Republican voters do. One thing is probably for certain: No matter how he tries to spin it at a press conference, voters are not going to be persuaded that the man who oversaw and pushed for unprecedented peacetime growth in the size of government has suddenly become the nation’s foremost fiscal hawk.

First, I agree with your sentiment about wartime vs peacetime, but I am sick and tired of political pundits saying they are war weary. WAR WEARY! How many times have they or their kids deployed to a combat zone? Other than the news stories occasionaly on TV, there are so few clues that 1% of our country is figthing these wars. Oh, three wars? Try again: We have troops in Afghanistan and Iraq; we had trainers in Pakistan till they sent them home. We are flying tons of sorties over Libya, oh yeah, those are non-kinetic ops. I bet the medals the Marines got for saving the F-15E crew were just candy.
Let’s not forget the Horn of Africa or Yemen and according to the Nation today, we have secret CIA facilities in Somalia complete with a not-so-secret now CIA prison. Finally, let’s not forget that we have special ops troops in the Phillipines for years doing training….. oh yeah, two Americans were kidnapped in the PI today.
The Ranger that recieved the Medal of Honor today had around 7 deployments when he lost his hand. Yeah, we’re in peacetime, but only if you are a pundit living in Georgetown, Santa Monica, or the Upper West Side of Manhatten.

I am so with you on the right vs left. I look for a consistancy which in this political climate is hard to achieve. But there is one thing that is, to my mind unassailable: the President has no clue how to lead.
