The Mandate

No, not the first “you must buy health insurance to live” mandate, but the “you must provide birth control – in all it’s forms mandate”.

Drudge has the headlines this morning suggesting that the issue isn’t going away anytime soon (unless of course the Supreme Court strikes down Obamacare come March- whoop!). In his main link about the fight to go down, the article in CBS New York gives the prochoice side of this [bold is mine]:

But pro-choice groups said they will fight the church and fight for the right of employees of Catholic institutions to have birth control and other services paid for.

“The Catholic hierarchy seems to be playing a cynical game of chicken and they don’t seem to care that the health and well being of millions of American woman are what’s at stake here,” National Abortion Rights Action League President Andrea Miller said.

Those are their arguments? Birth control should be paid for in part by the church because of women’s health and well being?
So pregnancy is a sickness and sex without pregnancy is a right guaranteed by the state now vs the very first right written in the Bill of Rights?
The man on the street interview in the article has someone suggesting that the church, the Catholic church needs to get with the times.

We have a constitution people.
It doesn’t exist only up until the point where you don’t get the free stuff that you want because the constitution is in the way.

Tangentially, conservatism is an ideal. You don’t believe in it only up until the point where it’s monetary ideas get in the way of your government funded brain trusts or moon bases.

Today we caucus.
So far the worst we can say about these folks are
Romney – Romneycare
Newt – insane megalomaniac
Paul – isolationist/racist
Santorum – tax free manufacturing and social conservative.

I think the answer is clear. Sadly it has to be by elimination and not due to strong positives. Go Santorum.

ps Michael Gerson tells of the how this mandate could affect the poor and your tax dollars.

UPDATE: To be clear, no matter which of these men wins the nomination, I WILL be in full support against our current President.

UPDATE 2: John Galt over at ThreeSources links to three radio interviews of top 3 candidates. These make it even more clear to me that Santorum is the man.
